Using Natural Pozzolans to Partially Replace Cement in Pervious Concretes: A Sustainable Alternative?

نویسندگان

چکیده

Concrete is one of the most widely used construction materials all around globe. Associated with urban expansion, concrete pavements increase impermeable surfaces that affect hydrological cycle and generate heat islands. Cement main components concrete, its production sources worldwide CO2 emissions. Pervious partial cement replacement represents a more sustainable alternative. In this paper, use natural pozzolans zeolite pumicite, as in pervious mixtures, analyzed. The mechanical hydraulic properties concretes using different percentages pumicite to replace (0% 20%) were evaluated by series tests on compressive strength, flexural permeability, porosity, microanalysis SEM for samples. Additionally, experiments plasticizer additive conducted. results show mixtures 0.35 W/C ratio present better properties; shows performance than zeolite, achieved at 10% replacement; addition increased final strengths. It recommended partially adding consider 0.7% plasticizer.

Reduction of CO2 Emission and Production Costs by Using Pozzolans in Lamerd Cement Factory

Two major concerns for cement factories are environmental aspects and production costs. The number of cement factories is increasing in Iran which from an environmental point of view is not favorable. Different pozzolans such as brick, potted clay, volcanic rocks, sedimentary rocks and rice bran were used in the cement produced by Lamerd factory in the south of Iran. Among these additives, ...

Natural Cellulose Nanofibers As Sustainable Enhancers in Construction Cement

Cement is one of the mostly used construction materials due to its high durability and low cost, but it suffers from brittle fracture and facile crack initiation. This article describes the use of naturally-derived renewable cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) to reinforce cement. The effects of CNFs on the mechanical properties, degree of hydration (DOH), and microstructure of cement pastes have been ...
